Vampire Myths:

Myth#1: Vampires Must Drink Blood.

Truth: More accurate would be _some_ vampires need to drink blood. Not all do, or need to. It's only one method of feeding, granted the most direct. Blood has very high capacity of life energies ( sometimes refered to as 'prantic' energy) Vampires who are blood drinkers are often refered to as Sanguinarians, 'sang' being french for blood. Vampires need only small amounts of blood and normally have 'donors' or friends who are willing to share their blood with the vampire. Please note that any kind of blood exchange in this day and age is very, very dangerous, and I do not recommend it for the inexpereinced or uninformed. you could end up diseased or worse!

Myth#2: Vampires are Immortal.

Truth: Real vampires are not 'immortal' in the hollywood sense. They are not undead and unaging, but are mortal of body and they will grow old and they will pass from the physical world in time. Their immortality lies in the continuance of their spirit to the next life. Unlike humans, vampires retain much more of their powers and knowlege when they are reborn, and the ability to consume life force as a sustanance also is passed with the soul. Due to the life absorbing nature of the vampire, the physical body can be maintained somewhat longer than normal, but of this same reason will eventually 'burn out'. There are certain limitations to physical existance, and this is why 5000 physical year old vampires are wannabes or roleplayers.

Myth#3: Vampires are all beautiful, sexy, mysterious, and have lots of sex.

Truth: Not all vampires are beautiful or sexy. That would be like saying all humans are short, fat, and ugly. Its not true, there are beautiful humans, just like there are beautiful and homely vampires. Most vampires do tend to keep a mysterious aura abou them, even if they are very forthright about their normal lives. This is a kind of self preservation thing. If people don't know you are a vampire, they won't try to kill you right? As for the sex thing, sex can generate enormous amounts of prantic energy. This makes it a very easy and descrete feeding option for a vampire, and some like to take advantage of it. Vampires do enjoy sex like any one else, but it's not always a sure thing unless you have a regular partner. Also it is very dangerous to have many sexual partners in this day and age, and vampires are not immune to diseases like AIDS and other sexually transmited diseases.

Myth#4: Vampires are capable of regenerating and are immune to illness.

Truth: Vampires can and do tend to heal faster than humans, they also tend to be disease reistant and recover faster then normal people, but vampires cannot regenerate a body part that has been removed by unnatural means. And although vampires resist disease, they can still contract it, and it can be fatal or vampires just like it can be fatal to humans.

Myth#5: Vampires wear all black and speak in eurotrash accents.

Truth: Eh, no. They don't run around in capes or lingerie either. Look at your classmates, they guy next door, the business man on the street. They dress like NORMAL people, not regects from the dracula casting or a LARP rehersal.

Myth#6: Vampires are weak against crosses and other holy symbols.

Truth: Not really. Many vampires are christians, and many quite like crosses and other holy symbols. This is a myth, holy symbols do as much damage as they would do to a regular person.

If you are currently looking for some names for yourself or maybe a coven name or something: Here are a some to get you started:
Alternative Magical Names:
By: Eileen Holland
There is no obligation to assume a magical, craft, or secret name. Many practitioners, however, do take follow the practice. After all, magic is transformational, so a new name is one way to celebrate the positive changes that magic makes in your life.
Finding your magical name isn't something that you need to stress over. Names, like familiars, have a way of finding magical people. When the right name for you comes along you'll know it. You'll feel the rightness of it.
New names can honor gods, ancestors, animal totems, culture heroes, spirit guides, the place where you live-whatever is meaningful to you. If a certain culture has particular resonance for you-say Norse, Celtic, or Egyptian- you may want to choose a name from that culture. Be aware, however, that some say it isn't a good idea to take the name of a very powerful deity like Isis, Odin, or Kali. Others say this is up to you- that only you can judge whether or not you are able to hand such power. It is always a good idea to research any nae that appeals to you, learn it's history and meaning.
If you have been hoping that an unusual name will find you, here are some choices from geology, history, meteorology, oceanography, and mythology.

Names Based on The Elements:

Any element can be looked to for a magical name.
Earth- Alluvia, Arroyo, Beck, Brae, Cairn, Chalcedon, Clay, Crag, Crystal, Dolman, Dune, Gemma, Greenwood, Grove, Jet, Ley, Mesa, Moraine, Obsidian, Onyx, Ravine, Savanna, Shale, Stone, Sylvan, Sylvana, Tarn, Telluria, Topaz, Tor, Vale.

Air- Aether, Anemone, Argon, Boreas, Cardea, Gale, Hurikan, Keen, Khamseen, Mesembria, Miasma, Myst, Notus, Scirocco, Skye, Tempest, Typhon, Vortex, Windflower, Zephyr.

I'll add more later just please be patient.

I have just recently made a new character for Vampire the Masquerade. Her name is Ember Myst, she is Countess Bathorys daughter. Ember has a twin sister who is a bisexual yet with female preference just like her. Her sisters name who is played by one of my friends, (whose name is Lee), Vortex Rayne. They are incestuous prostitutes also. I love my characters because I can have so much fun with them. And I do mean alot of fun! We act out everything perfectly like, kissing, hugging, making out...etc.
I've also got another character whose name is Jade Lei! In case you haven't noticed, she is chinese. She is also a prostitute.....with males and females....females have to pay extra.
But if you ever hear about vampire the masquerade...please check it out in your hometown. Just please make sure it is not the table top like Dungeons and Dragons. Otherwise, it will be very very boring! Live Action Role Play (A.K.A: LARP) is the way to go...if you would like any other information on this subject please let me know by email or if you know me personally call me!

8-10 (the rest of the myths)

Myth#8: Vampires are adversely affected by garlic and silver.

Truth: Unless they have a specific allergy to either of these, they won't have any effect at all. A lot of people are allergic to silver and have to have it coated to avoid irritation when wearing the jewelry.

Myth#9: Vampires are divided into clans.

Truth: Vampires are vampires. There are no different kinds within, it's just the differences in how they feed and what they choose to do with their energies. A blood drinker and a psi vamp is like the difference between a meat eating human and a vegitarian human. They are both human, they just choose a different diet. Same with vamps. Vampires have some organization, there are schools, support groups and 'houses' which are avaliable to those who want to be a part of them. The actually organization within the structures is largely unknown to those who are not a part of them. Vampires have friends, allies, and enemies on an individual basis, just like any one else, but there is no 'clan' or 'generation' as such.

Myth#10: If I am turned and become a vampire, I can leave my old huamn life and problems behind.

Truth: WRONG!! If you think you have problems now, you haven't seen anything yet. Being turned is not something to take lightly, it isn't a game, you can't just quit if you want to. it's a now and FOREVER, kind of deal. Being turned will NOT make you rich, NOT make you sexy, NOT make you liked, NOT make you accepted, and it will NOT make your problems go away. It WILL make you hungry, it WILL make you change your life style, it WILL affect your normal relationships, it WILL make you depressed and desperate at time, it WILL change your diet, and it WILL affect you in ways you didn't even thing about.

There is nothing glamorous or glorious about being a real vampire. You have needs, cravings, physical problems, mental problems, spiritual problems, that you never dreamed of. You will be depressed, uncertain, empty and miserable at times. You will be hungry and tempermental, you will have to take the time to 'awaken', ( this can take years of your life ) and you still might not have a clue. You are in it for the haul, now and forever. And you don't do this once, you do it for every life you live after this one. So get rid of the dracula myths, the anne rice , and the Vampire: tM, because the life of a real vampire is about as far from all that as the Sun is from Pluto.

I now play a L.A.R.P (Live Action Role Playing Game.)! It is called Vampire: The Masquerade. I found it quite interesting. Um........some of the missions and scenes that we do are pretty cool. My vampire name is Obsidian Petrovik. I am of course female (duh!!!) I have Waist length Black hair with red tips, violet eyes, and pale skin. I am very outgoing, USUALLY getting along with most of the other vampires that I have met. Though I have a Russian last name I have a very strong English accent. I set my mind to anything and go for what I desire. I am a strong believer in curses, in which I am currently searching for a cure for the curse that was bestowed upon me.
Pretty neat huh? I thought so too, My friend Jey helped me put all of this together due to the fact that I have never played this game before. My character history goes like so......
When I (Obsidian) was born a full vampire in Russia, my parents did not care for me. So, for the first 15 years of my life I taught myself how to hunt, fight, and protect myself against other packs while also slowly gaining love from my parents. One day, I arrived home in Russia only to find that my parents have been devoured by another clan of vampires. Furious and terrified, I left home to track down the clan to Wiltshire, England near Swindon. It was here that I had lived for the next 30 years of my life, not once finding a trace of the murdering vampires but learning more about acting and looking like a normal human. In my 57th year, I devoured a family consisting of a mother and two children. The father, who was an ascetic, grew furious. Near death and knowing that he could not defeat me, the ascetic put a curse on me. "Unless you find true love by the time you reach the age of 72, you will wither and turn to dust." Tired of this bullshit, I snapped his neck and drained him of all his blood, muttering "I don't believe in curses." When I turned 63, I met another vampire named Diego. He was a strong Malkavian and kept to himself, usually never speaking....but looked out for my whenever I needed help. It wasn't until a few years later that I found out that he was a double agent, working for the vampires that killed my family....trying to kill me! Instead of killing me, Diego decided to let me live, causing his pack to grow furious. Several years later, I (age of 69) caught site of the curse after watching my loved interest, Diego, die before me. My chest tightened as I lost my breath and while my heart pace quickened, my blood growing hot and scorching my right hand from the inside, out! I then knew that the curse was real. Horrified, I fled to London, searching for mages in hopes to find a way to lift the curse. I did not succeed. Two days after I turned 71, I had suddenly recieved a summons to head for Morgantown, West Virginia in America....I was told that there was a cure for the curse. Now I only have one year to either find true love of a cure before I vanish into nothing.
I love my vampire history. For those of you who do not know what a malkavian is go to google.com and search for the sabbat clans. They are pretty interesting. And also for those of you who would like to learn to play read the book Laws of the Night by White Wolf a very good read. I am still learning how to play due to the fact that November 8th was my 1st night playing. Some of my abilities are interesting.....I am quick, tough, graceful, Dexterous, and Wiry. Those are my physical abilities. My social are these....I am charming, Callous, and Gorgeous. My mental are as follows....Alert, cunning, creative, observant, dedicated, attentive, and patient. My nature (how I see myself) is a Sadist.....basically what that is is...Someone who inflicts pain on others because they think everyone must know pain. I am also a Chameleon....I can blend in to any situation. One of my derangements is Sanguinary Animism.....what that means is when I drink of someones blood from a bite I take half their soul. I love me! I love blood...and vampires....and the occult. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!
